He completed MBBS and MS in General Surgery at the Institute of Medical Sciences, Banaras Hindu University, followed by DNB in General Surgery and a fellowship in liver transplant surgery at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital. Further training covered robotic liver surgery in France, robotic hepatopancreatobiliary surgery in Italy and laparoscopic liver resection in the United States.
His main field is living-donor liver transplantation, including donor hepatectomy and recipient surgery. His operative scope also includes major liver resections, bile-duct reconstruction, pancreaticoduodenectomy and surgery for gallbladder, bile-duct and other hepatopancreatobiliary cancers.
His surgical practice covers advanced liver disease considered for transplantation, liver and biliary tumours, complex bile-duct injuries and pancreatic disease. His experience also includes renal transplantation. He is involved in academic work and is a member of the Liver Transplant Society of India.
