Dr Arunanshu Behera is Director - Hepatobiliary, GI & General Surgery at Shalby Hospital Mohali, with more than 40 years of clinical experience. His practice covers general, gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary surgery, liver transplantation and complex multidisciplinary surgical care.

He completed MBBS at Christian Medical College, Vellore in 1981 and MS Surgery at PGIMER Chandigarh in 1986. His additional training includes liver-transplant fellowships at Asan Medical Center in Seoul and King’s College Hospital in London, plus a fellowship in robotic surgery.

His clinical fields include liver transplantation, portal hypertension and shunt surgery, gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary surgery, endocrine surgery, vascular surgery, oncological surgery and laparoscopic and robotic procedures. At PGIMER he served as the nodal officer and team leader for liver-transplant surgery from 2009 to 2024 and helped initiate the transplant programme.

Dr Behera spent more than 33 years on the surgery faculty at PGIMER and previously served as Head of General Surgery. His work includes the first combined liver-kidney transplant reported by his PGIMER programme. Shalby also records 197+ research publications, with research spanning hepatopancreatobiliary surgery, transplantation, gastrointestinal cancers, endocrine and breast surgery and vascular surgery.
