He studied at Armed Forces Medical College, Pune, completed MD in Medicine at Pune University and DM in Gastroenterology at PGIMER Chandigarh. His further training includes a fellowship in hepatology and liver transplantation at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham, and advanced GI endoscopy and endoscopic ultrasound training in South Carolina and Alabama in the United States.
His clinical areas include endoscopic ultrasound, ERCP, spiral enteroscopy, capsule endoscopy, paediatric endoscopy, gastrointestinal bleeding, inflammatory bowel disease, pancreatitis, acute and chronic hepatitis, biliary disorders, liver transplantation and faecal microbiota transplantation.
He has served on governing councils of Indian gastroenterology and GI endoscopy societies and is involved with national organ-donation organisations. He received the Vishisht Seva Medal in 2009 and the Smt Ranjana Vij Memorial medal. He has more than 100 publications and speaks Hindi and English.
