Dr. Harsh Kumar

Dr. Harsh Kumar is Director of Glaucoma Services at Centre for Sight and has more than 41 years of ophthalmology experience. His current Centre for Sight profile lists anterior-segment surgery, cataract and glaucoma as his main areas, with particular emphasis on complex glaucoma management.

His qualifications include MBBS, MD and DNB. His training and academic career included senior residency in glaucoma and oculoplastic surgery at the Dr R. P. Centre for Ophthalmic Sciences, AIIMS, followed by work in intraocular lens implantation, uvea and vitreoretina, paediatric ophthalmology and oculoplastics. He also completed international fellowship training in the United States.

His clinical work includes complex glaucoma surgery, shunts and valves, combined cataract-and-glaucoma procedures, and advanced laser treatment for glaucoma. Centre for Sight also documents his work in retinopathy of prematurity and anterior-segment care. His long academic record includes research, teaching and programme development in glaucoma and ROP.

Dr. Kumar received the Padma Shri in 2015. Other documented honours include the Best Resident Award at AIIMS, Bodh Raj Sabharwal Medal, WHO Fellowship, International Medical Scholars Programme award, multiple ophthalmology orations and scientific-presentation awards. These recognitions sit alongside his current clinical role in glaucoma services, where treatment planning depends on optic-nerve status, intraocular pressure, visual fields, angle anatomy, prior surgery and the individual patient’s overall eye health.

His current Centre for Sight profile also documents earlier work across retina, paediatric ophthalmology and oculoplastics before his later focus on glaucoma and anterior-segment surgery.
