Dr K K Talwar is Chairman of Cardiac Sciences at PSRI Hospital in New Delhi. His clinical and academic work has focused on cardiology, cardiac arrhythmia, heart failure and cardiac device therapy. He previously headed Cardiology at AIIMS and served as Director of PGIMER, Chandigarh.
He completed MBBS at Punjab University in 1973, MD in Medicine at PGIMER in 1976 and DM in Cardiology at PGIMER in 1989. His additional credentials include F.A.M.S, F.I.N.A and F.A.C.C.
His work includes implantable cardioverter-defibrillator therapy and cardiac resynchronisation therapy. He performed the first ICD implantation in South Asia and introduced cardiac resynchronisation therapy in India. He also developed heart-failure and heart-transplant work during his tenure at AIIMS.
Dr Talwar received the Padma Bhushan in 2006 and the Dr B. C. Roy Award. He has served as President of the National Academy of Medical Sciences, the Heart Failure Society of India and the Indian Section of the International Society of Heart Research. He is also Patron of the Heart Rhythm Society of India.
