Dr. K N K Shetty

Dr. K N K Shetty is Consultant - Medical Gastroenterology at Manipal Hospital, Old Airport Road, Bengaluru, with more than 40 years in gastroenterology and advanced endoscopy. He completed MBBS at Mysuru Medical College, obtained MRCP in the United Kingdom and undertook fellowship training in gastroenterology and endoscopy at Hammersmith Hospital in London.

His clinical work covers diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, liver, bile ducts, gallbladder and pancreas, with a particular focus on advanced interventional therapeutic endoscopy. Manipal lists ERCP for stone removal and stenting of the bile or pancreatic ducts, drainage of pancreatic pseudocysts, pancreatic necrosectomy and placement of metal stents within the GI tract and biliary system.

Dr. Shetty also performs SpyGlass cholangioscopy, laser lithotripsy and Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection for selected complex stones or gastrointestinal lesions. Manipal credits him with establishing its Gastroenterology and Endoscopy Department at Old Airport Road in 1991 and with introducing several advanced therapeutic endoscopy procedures and workshops in Karnataka.

He speaks English, Kannada, Hindi, Tulu, Konkani, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Bengali. His academic record includes national and international publications.

For pancreaticobiliary or advanced endoscopy cases, useful records include previous endoscopy or ERCP reports, CT/MRI or MRCP, liver tests and pathology when relevant. The appropriate endoscopic technique depends on anatomy, diagnosis, prior interventions and whether surgery or another modality is preferable. His practice remains strongly procedure-focused.
