Dr. Madva Jayashankar

Dr. Madva Jayashankar is Consultant - General Surgery at Manipal Hospitals, Old Airport Road, Bengaluru, with 38 years of overall experience and 35 years of specialist experience. He completed MBBS in 1985 and MS in General Surgery in 1987 at Kasturba Medical College, and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 1999.

His principal clinical fields are general surgery, laparoscopic surgery and hernia care. He received further training in laparoscopic and gastrointestinal surgery in India and the United Kingdom, combining conventional surgical assessment with minimally invasive approaches where these are appropriate for the patient’s condition.

Dr. Jayashankar has also contributed to surgical education. He previously served as faculty at Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore, and Father Muller Medical College. His professional activity has included leadership roles in surgical organisations, including Treasurer of the Surgical Society of Bangalore in 2007, Secretary of the Association of Surgeons of India Karnataka State Chapter in 2008, and later service on its executive committee.

His memberships include the Association of Surgeons of India, Indian Association of Gastrointestinal Endo Surgeons, Indian Society of Gastroenterology, Association of Minimal Access Surgery, Asia Pacific Hernia Society and Indian Medical Association.

He speaks English, Hindi and Kannada. At Manipal, patients may consult him for general surgical assessment, laparoscopic procedures and hernia-related problems, with the final treatment approach determined after examination, review of imaging and consideration of previous surgery and overall health.
