Dr. Mathew Jacob

Dr. Mathew Jacob is Senior Consultant and HOD of Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary and Abdominal Multi-Organ Transplant Surgery. He specialises in complex liver, pancreas and biliary surgery together with abdominal transplantation, including liver, kidney and pancreas transplant procedures. His practice includes both living-donor and deceased-donor liver transplantation.

His clinical expertise covers advanced hepatopancreatobiliary surgery, abdominal multi-organ transplantation and minimally invasive liver and pancreatic procedures. He manages complex tumours of the liver, gallbladder, bile duct and pancreas, as well as selected benign HPB conditions that require major reconstruction or resection.

He is also an experienced laparoscopic surgeon and works within multidisciplinary transplant and oncology teams to plan treatment for patients with advanced liver and pancreatic disease.

Dr. Jacob trained extensively in the United Kingdom. His postgraduate pathway includes MRCS and FRCS qualifications, a HESPERIS fellowship and post-CCT transplant fellowship training at St James’s University Hospital in Leeds.

He also trained within the Yorkshire School of Surgery and at Freeman Hospital in Newcastle upon Tyne. His research background includes liver-transplantation work linked to the UK Department of Health and NHS Blood and Transplant, research with the Royal College of Surgeons and participation in the Ireland Liver Transplant Audit. His academic interests include transplant epidemiology and prognostic modelling in liver transplantation, and he has published research in peer-reviewed medical journals.

His work also includes multidisciplinary assessment of transplant candidates, recipients and living donors.
