Dr Narasimhan R

Dr Narasimhan R is a Senior Consultant in Pulmonology and Respiratory Medicine at Apollo Hospitals, Greams Road, Chennai, with 40+ years of clinical experience. His qualifications are MBBS, DTCD and MD.

He joined Apollo Hospitals Chennai in 1992 after earlier work in respiratory medicine at JIPMER, the Tuberculosis Research Centre, Sri Ramachandra Medical College and other institutions. His academic roles have included appointments linked to Tamil Nadu Dr M.G.R. Medical University and the University of Queensland.

His practice covers complex respiratory disease and interventional pulmonology, including severe asthma, pleural disease, respiratory infections, bronchiectasis, persistent cough and breathlessness.

His key procedural interests include diagnostic bronchoscopy, bronchial thermoplasty, transbronchoscopic lung cryobiopsy, endobronchial cryoablation, pleuroscopy and endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS)-guided biopsy. Apollo records more than 11,000 diagnostic bronchoscopies and extensive experience in pleuroscopy and EBUS.

Dr Narasimhan is a member of several respiratory and bronchology organisations, including the Indian Chest Society, American Thoracic Society, British Thoracic Society and European Respiratory Society.

He has received the Best Teacher Award from the API Chennai Chapter and a Vocational Excellence Award from Rotary. He has also served on respiratory-journal editorial boards and delivered hundreds of lectures on pulmonary disease.
