Dr Poovamma C U is Lead & HOD – Breast Oncology & Oncoplasty at Aster CMI Bangalore. She has over 15 years of dedicated experience in breast cancer surgery, with a focus on oncoplastic and aesthetic breast procedures.
She completed an MBBS at Kasturba Medical College, Manipal, followed by an MS in General Surgery at Shri BM Patil Medical College, Bijapur. She then completed a Fellowship in Breast Diseases through RGUHS, advanced training at the Interdisciplinary Breast Centre in Germany and an international fellowship in oncoplastic, reconstructive and aesthetic breast surgery.
Her procedures include oncoplastic breast-conserving surgery, lumpectomy, sentinel lymph-node biopsy, mammotome-guided excisions, modified radical mastectomy, skin-sparing and nipple-sparing mastectomy, and localisation of impalpable breast lesions using ROLL.
Her reconstructive practice includes implant-based and autologous breast reconstruction, nipple-areolar reconstruction, augmentation and contralateral symmetrisation. Lymphedema management is also listed.
Dr Poovamma is a member of Breast Surgery International, the International Society of Surgery and the Association of Breast Surgeons of India. She speaks English, Hindi and Kannada.
