Dr Prochi Madon is Consultant, Genetics at Jaslok Hospital and Research Centre, Mumbai, with 40 years of experience. Her work centres on human cytogenetics, reproductive genetics, prenatal diagnosis and genetic counselling.
She holds MSc and PhD in Applied Biology. Her training and research history includes B.J. Medical College, Pune, Grant Medical College and Sir JJ Group of Hospitals, Mumbai, the Institute for Research in Reproduction and the ICMR Genetic Research Centre. She later undertook short training in the United States in FISH testing.
Her clinical work includes karyotyping and FISH for infertility, recurrent miscarriage, delayed puberty, hypogonadism, congenital malformations, developmental delay, autism-spectrum disorders and prenatal samples. She also works with preimplantation genetic diagnosis for chromosomal rearrangements and cancer cytogenetics in leukaemia and lymphoma.
Dr Madon started Jaslok's Genetics and PGD laboratory in 1999 and introduced FISH there as a rapid diagnostic test. Her honours include the Lady Tata Memorial Trust Senior Research Scholarship and a Young Scientist Award in Cytogenetics. Jaslok also lists her contributions to published work in reproductive and cytogenetic genetics.
