Dr. S. K. Thakur

Dr S. K. Thakur is a Senior Consultant in Gastroenterology at SAMA Hospital, New Delhi, with more than 35 years of overall experience. He completed MBBS and MD in Medicine at Armed Forces Medical College, Pune, followed by DM in Gastroenterology at PGI Chandigarh and also holds FICA-USA.

His principal expertise includes therapeutic gastrointestinal endoscopy, liver disease and small-bowel disorders. SAMA states that he has performed more than 30,000 endoscopic procedures, including oesophageal stenting and balloon dilatation, endoscopic sclerotherapy, variceal band ligation, polypectomy, endoclipping, colonoscopic polypectomy and bariatric balloon placement.

Dr Thakur served in the Indian Armed Forces for 23 years as a consultant in Medicine and Gastroenterology. His senior academic and clinical appointments included Professor and Head of Medicine at Armed Forces Medical College and leadership of Medicine and Gastroenterology at Army Hospital Research & Referral, Delhi Cantt; he has also served as an examiner for postgraduate medical training.
