Senior Consultant and Program Director for Head & Neck Oncology at Aster Medcity Kochi, specialising in TORS, robotic thyroid surgery, skull-base surgery and reconstruction.
Dr. Shawn T Joseph is Senior Consultant and Program Director of the Head & Neck Oncology Network for the Kerala Cluster. His practice focuses on head and neck cancer surgery, minimally invasive procedures, functional preservation and reconstruction, with particular expertise in oral, thyroid, laryngeal and skull-base disease.
His surgical work includes transoral robotic surgery, transoral laser microsurgery, robotic thyroid surgery, skull-base surgery and minimally invasive salivary-gland procedures. He has developed and introduced techniques aimed at preserving speech, swallowing, appearance and mandibular function while maintaining oncologic control.
His work also includes complex reconstruction using facial-artery-based flaps and selected scar-concealing approaches for oral, thyroid and parotid surgery.
Dr. Joseph holds MBBS, MS and DNB in ENT, MCh in Head & Neck Surgery, fellowship training in skull-base surgery, FACS and an MBA in Hospital and Healthcare Management. His career has included specialist and leadership roles in head and neck surgical oncology, institutional research and multidisciplinary cancer care.
His documented innovations include the Trident Landmark Technique for facial-nerve identification, the TAMMIL procedure for selected laryngeal and hypopharyngeal cancers, hybrid endoscopy-assisted TORS and Kerala-first robotic thyroid procedures.
He has also published clinical work on facial-artery-based reconstructive flaps. He may be relevant for patients with oral, thyroid, laryngeal, salivary-gland or skull-base tumours who require advanced oncologic surgery with attention to function and reconstruction.
His practice also includes postoperative functional rehabilitation and oncologic surveillance.
