Liver Transplant at Apollo Hospital, New Delhi: a Patient from Kenya

A woman from Kenya had cryptogenic chronic liver disease, a long-term liver condition in which the cause is not identified. Managing it meant regular consultations, diagnostic tests, medicines and hospital stays, and as the disease progressed the costs and the need for a lasting solution grew. A liver transplant was needed.

Liver transplantation is a highly specialised operation that requires an experienced surgical team and extensive care afterwards, and expertise at the level she needed was limited where she lived. She therefore looked abroad, and her medical documents were prepared and attested and her visa arranged before travel.

In January 2022 she travelled to Apollo Hospital in New Delhi, where she had her liver transplant. She completed the transplant and began her recovery.
