IVC Obstruction Angioplasty and Stenting: общие сведения

IVC obstruction angioplasty and stenting in India is an endovascular treatment for selected symptomatic narrowing or blockage of the inferior vena cava, the major vein returning blood from the lower body to the heart. Clinically important obstruction may cause bilateral leg swelling, venous claudication, abdominal-wall collateral veins, pelvic or abdominal venous congestion and reduced mobility. Treatment is appropriate only when symptoms, cause and imaging support intervention.

Evaluation usually includes vascular or interventional-radiology assessment with CT or MR venography, duplex ultrasound and catheter venography, with intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) used in selected complex cases to define the lumen and guide stent sizing. The team determines whether the problem is chronic post-thrombotic occlusion, a congenital or membranous narrowing, external compression or tumour-related obstruction. Acute thrombosis may require anticoagulation and, in selected cases, thrombectomy or thrombolytic treatment before or instead of stenting.

During treatment, the obstructed segment may be crossed and dilated with a balloon before one or more venous stents are placed to restore durable outflow. Risks include bleeding, access-site complications, recurrent thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, contrast-related kidney injury, stent migration or occlusion and the need for re-intervention. Patients usually need an individual antithrombotic plan and imaging surveillance after treatment. Sudden severe leg swelling accompanied by chest pain, breathlessness or collapse requires immediate local assessment for acute thrombosis or pulmonary embolism.

Cost in India depends on the length and complexity of the obstruction, number and type of venous stents, CT/MR or catheter venography, IVUS, thrombectomy or other adjunctive procedures, anaesthesia or sedation, hospital stay, medicines and follow-up imaging. Tertiary vascular centres in India can provide interventional radiologists or vascular specialists, advanced venous imaging, complex recanalisation, venous stenting and structured anticoagulation and surveillance follow-up.

Medical Help India can connect international patients with an appropriate vascular healthcare partner in India to review venous imaging, clarify the cause of obstruction, compare stenting with other management options and obtain an individual treatment estimate. Medical Help India is a connection platform and does not replace emergency care for acute DVT or pulmonary embolism.

Часто задаваемые вопросы

How much does IVC Obstruction Angioplasty and Stenting cost in India?

Cost depends on the length and complexity of the IVC obstruction, number and type of venous stents, CT or MR venography, catheter venography, IVUS when used, thrombectomy or other adjunctive procedures, anaesthesia or sedation, hospital stay, antithrombotic medicines and follow-up imaging. Chronic recanalisation or tumour-related obstruction may require a more complex estimate.

Which medical reports are useful to have ready for IVC Obstruction Angioplasty and Stenting?

Have ready: vascular or interventional-radiology notes, CT or MR venography and duplex or catheter-venography images and reports, plus IVUS records if already performed. Include prior DVT or pulmonary-embolism history, anticoagulation treatment, previous venous stents or thrombectomy, kidney-function results, cancer history where relevant and the pattern and duration of leg, pelvic or abdominal venous symptoms.

What symptoms can IVC obstruction cause?

Significant obstruction can cause leg swelling, venous congestion, abdominal-wall veins or other symptoms related to impaired venous return.

How is IVC obstruction assessed before stenting?

Assessment may use CT or MR venography, Doppler ultrasound and catheter venography to define the obstruction and plan treatment.

Is follow-up needed after IVC stenting?

Yes. Patients may need antithrombotic treatment and imaging surveillance to assess stent patency and detect recurrent obstruction.
