Nerve Root Blocks: общие сведения
Nerve root blocks in India are image-guided injections placed around a selected spinal nerve root to help confirm the source of radicular pain and, in some patients, provide temporary symptom relief. They are most often considered for cervical or lumbar radiculopathy when arm or leg pain, sensory symptoms and examination findings correlate with a specific nerve root and relevant MRI or CT findings.
Assessment should include a spine, pain-medicine or interventional specialist review of symptoms, neurological findings and imaging. Degenerative changes are common on scans and should not be treated solely because they appear on MRI. The clinician also reviews anticoagulant or antiplatelet medicines, diabetes, allergy history, infection risk and whether progressive neurological compression makes injection inappropriate or delays necessary surgical assessment.
The block is usually performed with fluoroscopy or CT guidance using local anaesthetic, sometimes with corticosteroid when clinically appropriate. A diagnostic block can help test whether the selected nerve root is responsible for symptoms; a therapeutic block may reduce inflammation and pain for a variable period. Relief is not guaranteed and the procedure does not correct major structural compression. Risks include bleeding, infection, temporary numbness or weakness, allergic or medication reactions and rare neurological or vascular complications. New or rapidly progressive weakness, saddle numbness or loss of bladder or bowel control requires urgent local assessment rather than planned medical travel.
Cost in India depends on the spinal region and level, fluoroscopy or CT guidance, medication used, specialist and facility charges and whether additional diagnostic or therapeutic procedures are required. Repeated injections or subsequent surgery should be costed separately.
India has tertiary spine and pain centres with interventional pain physicians, spine specialists, fluoroscopy/CT guidance and rehabilitation support. Medical Help India is a connection platform that can connect medically stable international patients with an appropriate healthcare partner to review imaging and symptoms, assess whether a nerve root block is justified and provide an individual treatment and cost estimate.

Nerve Root Blocks: ведущие больницы
Все больницы →Часто задаваемые вопросы
How much does Nerve Root Blocks cost in India?
Cost depends on the spinal region and level, fluoroscopy or CT guidance, medication used, specialist and facility charges and whether another diagnostic or therapeutic procedure is required. Repeated injections or subsequent surgery should be estimated separately.
Which medical reports are useful to have ready for Nerve Root Blocks?
Have ready: the current spine MRI or CT images and reports, pain or spine-specialist notes and records of previous physiotherapy, medicines or injections. Include the distribution of arm or leg pain, numbness or weakness, current anticoagulant or antiplatelet medicines, diabetes and any bladder, bowel or saddle-sensation changes.
What is the difference between a diagnostic and therapeutic nerve root block?
A diagnostic block helps confirm whether a specific nerve root is causing symptoms, while a therapeutic block aims to reduce pain and inflammation.
How are nerve root blocks guided?
They are usually performed under fluoroscopy or CT so the needle can be positioned accurately around the selected nerve root.
How long does pain relief last after a nerve root block?
Relief varies from hours to weeks or longer and is not guaranteed; the response can also help guide further treatment.
