Ovarian cyst removal in India is considered when an ovarian or adnexal cyst is persistent, symptomatic, enlarging, associated with complications, or has imaging features that make observation inappropriate. Many simple functional cysts resolve without surgery, so the decision should be based on age, menopausal status, symptoms, ultrasound appearance, cyst size and cancer risk rather than the presence of a cyst alone.
Assessment is led by a gynaecologist or gynaecologic oncologist when malignancy is a concern and usually starts with pelvic ultrasound. Sudden severe one-sided pelvic pain with vomiting, fainting, heavy bleeding, fever or suspected ovarian torsion or cyst rupture requires urgent local assessment rather than planned medical travel.
