Posterior Fossa Tumor Surgery: общие сведения
Posterior fossa tumour surgery in India is neurosurgical removal or biopsy of a tumour located in the lower back part of the skull, where the cerebellum, brainstem and fourth ventricle are situated. These tumours may cause headache, vomiting, imbalance, coordination problems, cranial-nerve symptoms or hydrocephalus. Surgery is planned according to tumour type, exact location, relationship to the brainstem and cranial nerves, and the patient’s neurological condition.
Preoperative assessment generally includes contrast-enhanced brain MRI, neurological examination and anaesthetic evaluation. CT, spine MRI or other staging investigations may be required for selected tumour types. If hydrocephalus is present, cerebrospinal-fluid diversion may be needed before, during or after tumour surgery. The surgical goal may be complete removal, safe maximal resection or biopsy when aggressive removal would create unacceptable neurological risk.
These operations require meticulous microsurgical technique because critical structures controlling breathing, swallowing, eye movement, balance and facial function are nearby. Intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring and neuronavigation may be used in selected cases. Risks include bleeding, infection, cerebrospinal-fluid leakage, cranial-nerve deficits, swallowing or balance problems and posterior fossa syndrome, particularly in some paediatric patients. Pathology and molecular testing guide any further oncology treatment.
Cost in India depends on tumour complexity, operative duration, neuromonitoring or navigation, ICU care, pathology, molecular testing and length of stay. Leading tertiary neuroscience centres provide neurosurgery, neuro-anaesthesia, neuroradiology, neuropathology, intensive care and neuro-oncology support. Medical Help India can connect international patients with an appropriate healthcare partner to review MRI scans and pathology, compare surgical plans and obtain an individualized hospital estimate.

Часто задаваемые вопросы
How much does Posterior Fossa Tumor Surgery cost in India?
Cost depends on tumour location and complexity, biopsy versus resection, neuromonitoring or navigation, ICU care, pathology and molecular testing, and hospital stay. Additional radiotherapy or systemic treatment is usually planned separately after pathology review.
Which medical reports are useful to have ready for Posterior Fossa Tumor Surgery?
Have ready: contrast-enhanced brain MRI images and reports, any CT or spine imaging, pathology or biopsy results if available and previous neurosurgical or oncology treatment records. Include current neurological symptoms and any hydrocephalus or shunt history.
How long is the hospital stay after Posterior Fossa Tumor Surgery?
Hospital stay depends on the procedure, your overall health and how recovery progresses. The treating surgeon can give a more accurate estimate after reviewing your case and planned surgical approach.
How long should I plan to stay in India after Posterior Fossa Tumor Surgery?
Most patients need additional time after discharge for recovery and follow-up before travelling. The recommended stay depends on the procedure and should be confirmed by the treating team.
Can I get a second opinion before surgery?
Yes. A second opinion can help confirm whether surgery is appropriate, compare alternative approaches and review expected recovery and costs before you decide how to proceed.
