Posterolateral Fusion (PLF): общие сведения
Posterolateral fusion (PLF) in India is a spinal fusion technique in which bone graft is placed along the back and sides of the vertebrae to encourage two or more spinal levels to heal into one stable segment. It is commonly used in the lumbar spine and may be combined with screws and rods and, in selected cases, decompression or an interbody fusion.
Before surgery, patients usually undergo a spine-specialist assessment with MRI and standing X-rays, with CT added when detailed bone anatomy, previous surgery or fusion status needs clarification. The diagnosis, symptoms and imaging should correlate because fusion is not appropriate for nonspecific back pain alone. The team also assesses bone quality, smoking, diabetes and other factors that can affect fusion healing.
Recovery includes gradual mobilisation and follow-up imaging while fusion develops over time. Risks include infection, bleeding, nerve injury, dural tear, non-union, implant problems and adjacent-segment degeneration. New bladder or bowel dysfunction, saddle numbness or rapidly progressive leg weakness requires urgent local assessment rather than waiting for planned travel. The cost of PLF in India depends on the number of levels, fixation system, bone-graft strategy, whether decompression is added, hospital stay and rehabilitation.
India offers access to experienced orthopaedic and neurosurgical spine teams at tertiary hospitals with modern fixation systems, imaging and rehabilitation support. Medical Help India can connect patients with an appropriate healthcare partner in India to review MRI and X-rays, compare PLF with other options and provide an individual estimate.

Все больницы →Часто задаваемые вопросы
How much does Posterolateral Fusion (PLF) cost in India?
Cost depends on the number of spinal levels, screws and rods or other fixation used, bone-graft strategy, whether decompression is added, anaesthesia, hospital stay and rehabilitation. Multilevel, revision or complex deformity surgery can have a substantially different estimate from a limited primary PLF.
Which medical reports are useful to have ready for Posterolateral Fusion (PLF)?
Have ready: recent MRI images and report for the affected spine, standing X-rays and CT when available, plus spine-specialist notes. Include neurological symptoms, previous physiotherapy, injections or surgery, current medicines, smoking and diabetes history, bone-density results if performed and any new bladder or bowel changes, saddle numbness or progressive weakness.
When is posterolateral fusion considered?
PLF may be considered for selected spinal instability, deformity or degenerative disease when symptoms and imaging correlate and fusion is clinically justified.
Does PLF always require decompression or an interbody cage?
No. PLF can be performed alone or combined with decompression or an interbody technique depending on nerve compression, instability, alignment and the surgical plan.
How long does spinal fusion take to heal?
Bone fusion develops over months. Recovery and activity progression depend on the number of levels, diagnosis, fixation, bone quality and individual healing factors.
