Schwannoma Excision: общие сведения

Schwannoma excision in India is surgery to remove a schwannoma, a usually benign tumour arising from Schwann cells surrounding peripheral or cranial nerves. Surgery may be considered when the tumour causes pain, weakness, sensory loss, progressive growth, compression of nearby structures or diagnostic uncertainty. The surgical goal is complete or maximal safe removal while preserving the involved nerve whenever possible.

Before surgery, patients usually undergo a neurological or peripheral-nerve assessment with contrast MRI, and CT may be added for selected skull-base, spinal or bony lesions. Depending on location, hearing tests, nerve-conduction studies or other functional assessments may be useful. The surgeon reviews tumour size and growth, symptoms, previous biopsy and the relationship between the tumour and the parent nerve.

During surgery, microsurgical techniques are used to separate the tumour from functioning nerve fascicles when possible, with intraoperative nerve monitoring used in selected cases. Risks include new weakness or numbness, bleeding, infection, recurrence and, for selected intracranial or spinal tumours, CSF leak or other neurological complications.

Cost in India depends on tumour location and size, microsurgical complexity, nerve monitoring, imaging, pathology, ICU needs and hospital stay. Tertiary neuroscience centres provide neurosurgeons, peripheral-nerve or skull-base teams and advanced monitoring according to tumour location. Medical Help India can connect international patients with a suitable healthcare partner to review MRI, compare nerve-preservation strategies and obtain an individual estimate.

Часто задаваемые вопросы

How much does Schwannoma Excision cost in India?

Cost depends on tumour location and size, microsurgical complexity, nerve monitoring, pathology, ICU needs and hospital stay. Skull-base, spinal or major peripheral-nerve schwannomas may require different specialist teams and estimates.

Which medical reports are useful to have ready for Schwannoma Excision?

Have ready: contrast MRI and relevant CT if available, neurology or surgical assessments, previous biopsy/pathology and prior operation records. Include pain, weakness, numbness, hearing or balance symptoms depending on tumour location and any documented growth on serial scans.

Does every schwannoma need surgery?

No. Small asymptomatic or slow-growing tumours may sometimes be monitored, while surgery is more often considered for growth, symptoms, compression or diagnostic uncertainty.

Can the affected nerve be preserved during schwannoma surgery?

Often yes, because many schwannomas can be separated from functioning nerve fascicles, but preservation depends on tumour location and how closely the tumour involves the nerve.

What symptoms can occur after schwannoma excision?

Depending on the nerve involved, temporary or permanent weakness, numbness, pain, hearing or balance changes can occur, along with general surgical risks such as bleeding and infection.
