Spinal Tumor Surgery: общие сведения

Spinal tumour surgery in India is used for selected benign and malignant tumours involving the spinal cord, nerve roots, meninges, vertebrae or tissues around the spine. Tumours may be intramedullary, intradural-extramedullary or extradural, and the surgical goal may be biopsy, maximal safe removal, decompression of the spinal cord or nerves, or stabilisation of a weakened spine. The correct approach depends on tumour type, location, neurological symptoms and whether disease has spread from another cancer.

Before surgery, patients usually undergo a neurosurgical or spine-oncology assessment with contrast-enhanced MRI of the affected spinal region. CT may be added to assess bone destruction or plan fixation, while staging imaging and pathology are important when metastatic or malignant disease is suspected. The team reviews pain, weakness, sensory changes, walking, bladder or bowel function and previous cancer treatment.

Surgery may involve microsurgical tumour resection or biopsy, laminectomy or laminoplasty, decompression and spinal fixation when instability is present or expected after tumour removal. Intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring may be used in selected cases. Complete removal is not always safe, particularly when a tumour is tightly connected to the spinal cord or major nerves, and radiotherapy or systemic treatment may still be required after surgery.

The cost of spinal tumour surgery in India depends on tumour location and complexity, pathology, neuromonitoring, implants, ICU care, hospital stay and rehabilitation.

India offers access to neurosurgeons, spine surgeons, neuro-oncology teams and rehabilitation specialists at tertiary hospitals with advanced MRI, microsurgery and neurocritical-care support. Medical Help India can connect you with a suitable healthcare partner whose team can review MRI, pathology and previous treatment and advise on appropriate next steps.

Часто задаваемые вопросы

How much does Spinal Tumor Surgery cost in India?

Cost depends on tumour location and complexity, biopsy versus resection, neuromonitoring, implants when stabilisation is required, ICU care, pathology and rehabilitation. Additional radiotherapy or systemic treatment may be separate from the surgical estimate.

Which medical reports are useful to have ready for Spinal Tumor Surgery?

Have ready: contrast MRI images and reports of the affected spinal region, CT if available, pathology or biopsy results, staging scans and previous neurosurgical or oncology records. Include current pain, weakness, sensory changes, walking and bladder or bowel symptoms.

What types of spinal tumours may require surgery?

Surgery may be considered for selected intramedullary, intradural-extramedullary, extradural or vertebral tumours when biopsy, decompression, tumour removal or spinal stabilisation is needed.

Can every spinal tumour be completely removed?

No. The safest goal may be biopsy or maximal safe resection when a tumour is closely attached to the spinal cord, nerve roots or other critical structures.

When are spinal fixation and implants needed during tumour surgery?

Fixation may be required when the tumour has weakened the vertebrae, when bone must be removed to access the lesion or when instability is expected after decompression or resection.
