Stereotactic Radiosurgery: общие сведения
Stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) in India is a highly focused form of radiation treatment that delivers a precisely targeted dose to a small area without a surgical incision. Despite the name, it is not conventional surgery. SRS is used for selected brain metastases, benign or malignant brain tumours, vestibular schwannoma, meningioma, arteriovenous malformations and some functional conditions such as trigeminal neuralgia when the target, size and location are suitable.
Before treatment, patients usually undergo a neurosurgical and radiation-oncology assessment with high-resolution MRI and treatment-planning CT. The team reviews diagnosis, pathology when relevant, target size and number, previous surgery or radiotherapy and proximity to critical structures such as the optic pathways or brainstem. Some cases are treated in a single session, while others require a small number of stereotactic fractions.
Treatment may be delivered using Gamma Knife, CyberKnife or a stereotactic-capable linear accelerator, depending on the centre and indication. A rigid frame or mask may be used for immobilisation. SRS works over time rather than removing a lesion immediately, and follow-up imaging is important. Risks can include radiation swelling, headache, temporary neurological symptoms, radiation necrosis and damage to nearby critical structures, depending on the target.
The cost of stereotactic radiosurgery in India depends on platform, number and size of targets, single-session versus fractionated treatment, imaging and planning complexity.
India offers access to radiation oncologists, neurosurgeons, medical physicists and stereotactic treatment centres with advanced image guidance and planning systems. Compare platform experience, indication-specific expertise and estimated costs. Medical Help India can connect you with a suitable healthcare partner whose team can review MRI, pathology and previous treatment and advise on appropriate next steps.

How much does Stereotactic Radiosurgery cost in India?
Cost depends on treatment platform, number and size of targets, single-session versus fractionated stereotactic treatment, imaging and planning complexity. Additional surgery, systemic therapy or follow-up imaging may be separate.
Which medical reports are useful to have ready for Stereotactic Radiosurgery?
Have ready: high-resolution MRI and CT relevant to the target, pathology if available, previous surgery and radiotherapy records and the current diagnosis. Include the number and size of lesions and any prior radiation dose to the same area.
Is stereotactic radiosurgery actually surgery?
No. SRS is a highly focused radiation treatment delivered without an incision, despite the word “surgery” in the name.
What conditions can be treated with SRS?
Selected brain metastases, benign and malignant brain tumours, vestibular schwannoma, meningioma, AVMs and some functional conditions such as trigeminal neuralgia may be suitable.
What is the difference between single-session SRS and fractionated stereotactic treatment?
Single-session SRS delivers the planned dose in one treatment, while fractionated stereotactic radiotherapy divides it across a small number of sessions when target size or nearby critical structures make that safer.
