Ureteroscopy (URS): общие сведения

Ureteroscopy (URS) in India is an endoscopic urology procedure used mainly to diagnose and treat stones in the ureter or kidney and, in selected cases, investigate strictures or abnormalities of the upper urinary tract. A thin scope is passed through the urethra and bladder into the ureter without an external incision. For stones, treatment often includes laser lithotripsy and removal of fragments with a basket.

Before ureteroscopy, patients usually undergo a urology assessment with CT or ultrasound imaging, urine testing and kidney-function review. The team checks stone size and location, urinary obstruction, infection risk, previous stents and prior stone procedures. Active urinary infection should be treated before elective ureteroscopy because instrumentation can increase the risk of sepsis.

During URS, the surgeon may use a semi-rigid or flexible ureteroscope depending on stone location. A temporary ureteral stent is often placed afterward to support drainage and reduce obstruction while swelling settles. Risks include infection, bleeding, ureteral injury, residual stones, stent discomfort and the need for a repeat procedure in complex cases.

The cost of ureteroscopy in India depends on stone burden, flexible versus semi-rigid URS, laser use, stent placement, anaesthesia, hospital stay and whether more than one session is required.

India offers access to endourologists and stone-disease teams at tertiary hospitals with flexible ureteroscopy, laser lithotripsy and modern imaging. Compare URS centres, specialist experience and estimated costs. Medical Help India can connect you with a suitable healthcare partner whose team can review your CT, urine tests and previous stone treatment and advise on appropriate next steps.

Часто задаваемые вопросы

How much does Ureteroscopy (URS) cost in India?

Cost depends on stone size and location, flexible versus semi-rigid ureteroscopy, laser lithotripsy, stent placement, anaesthesia, hospital stay and whether more than one session is required. Stone analysis and later metabolic evaluation may be separate.

Which medical reports are useful to have ready for Ureteroscopy (URS)?

Have ready: CT or ultrasound of the urinary tract, urine culture or urinalysis, kidney-function tests and previous stone or stent records. Include current symptoms, infection history and any prior ureteroscopy, lithotripsy or nephrostomy procedures.

What is ureteroscopy used for?

URS is most commonly used to treat ureteric or kidney stones and can also investigate selected ureteric strictures or upper urinary-tract abnormalities.

Is a stent always placed after ureteroscopy?

Not always, but a temporary ureteral stent is commonly used when swelling, ureteral manipulation, residual stone fragments or other factors make additional drainage advisable.

Can ureteroscopy treat large kidney stones in one session?

Sometimes, but larger or more complex stone burdens may require staged ureteroscopy or another treatment such as PCNL depending on size, anatomy and stone location.
