Uvulopalatopharyngoplasty (UPPP): общие сведения

Uvulopalatopharyngoplasty (UPPP) in India is an airway surgery used in selected patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) when collapse or narrowing at the soft palate and throat contributes significantly to obstruction. The operation reshapes or removes selected tissues of the soft palate, uvula and lateral pharyngeal walls, sometimes together with tonsil surgery or another airway procedure. UPPP is not suitable for every patient with OSA and does not guarantee that CPAP or other therapy will no longer be needed.

Before surgery, patients usually undergo a sleep-medicine and ENT assessment with a diagnostic sleep study, together with examination of the nose, tonsils, palate, tongue base and jaw. Drug-induced sleep endoscopy (DISE) may be useful in selected patients to identify the main sites and pattern of airway collapse. Body weight, OSA severity and previous CPAP use also affect treatment planning.

The cost of UPPP in India depends on whether it is performed alone or as part of multilevel sleep surgery, hospital, surgeon, anaesthesia, overnight monitoring and any additional procedures.

India offers access to sleep surgeons, ENT specialists and multidisciplinary sleep teams at tertiary hospitals with polysomnography, airway endoscopy and postoperative monitoring. Important risks include pain, bleeding, swallowing difficulty, voice or resonance changes, velopharyngeal problems and persistent sleep apnea.

Medical Help India can connect you with a suitable healthcare partner whose team can review your sleep study, airway findings and previous CPAP treatment and advise on appropriate next steps.

Часто задаваемые вопросы

How much does Uvulopalatopharyngoplasty (UPPP) cost in India?

Cost depends on whether UPPP is performed alone or as part of multilevel sleep-apnea surgery, hospital, surgeon, anaesthesia, sleep testing and postoperative monitoring. Additional nasal, tongue-base or jaw procedures may be quoted separately.

Which medical reports are useful to have ready for Uvulopalatopharyngoplasty (UPPP)?

Have ready: the diagnostic sleep-study report, ENT or sleep-surgery assessment, prior CPAP or PAP settings and use data, and any DISE or airway-endoscopy findings. Include previous airway surgery, body weight and major medical conditions.

Who may be considered for UPPP?

UPPP may be considered for selected patients with obstructive sleep apnea when collapse at the soft palate and pharyngeal level is an important part of the obstruction and specialist assessment supports surgery.

Does UPPP always cure obstructive sleep apnea?

No. Results depend on the pattern and severity of airway collapse. Some patients continue to need CPAP, another device or additional airway treatment after surgery.

What are important risks after UPPP?

Risks can include pain, bleeding, swallowing difficulty, voice or resonance changes, velopharyngeal problems and persistent sleep apnea.
